Entrepreneur Club

The following article contains a questionnaire for the founder of the Entrepreneur Club, Arek Der-Sarkissian. The interview was conducted to share the projects, purpose, and goals of the club.

Who/What inspired you to create the club?

“Ever since I started running my own businesses online (mainly my websites), I’ve felt the urge to share my techniques and experience with other students. I can’t exactly say it was one specific person who inspired me to establish [the] Entrepreneur [club], as it was more the general collective of successful businessmen.”

Tell us a little bit about the projects you are currently working on.

“Spotlight is definitely the biggest one as of now. We try to release educational videos that tie into the central theme of entrepreneurship every other week, and the feedback has been very positive. I’m looking into potentially starting a business assistance program, but that will most probably begin later in the year.”

What is the goal of the club?

“We’re looking to teach students about the fundamental concepts that back entrepreneurship and leadership.”

Any upcoming projects in the near future?

“Besides the continuation of Spotlight and potential release of the business assistance program, we don’t have anything major planned. We are, however, looking into collaborating with several clubs in the upcoming months.”

Do you have any experience in entrepreneurship or have you worked on something like this before?

“I do currently manage my own online websites, both of which serve thousands of members each month and bring in considerable revenue. I’m responsible for making sure the sites work optimally, and that everyone is happy.”

By the end of the school year, what will students have completed/created?

“They’ll gain the experience behind producing and participating in a Spotlight video, and will hopefully better understand the concepts behind leadership and entrepreneurship.”

What would you like students to “take away” from your club?

“As I stated, I hope they can better understand the concepts behind leadership and entrepreneurship. Both are crucial in success, especially now as more and more businesses are beginning to develop.”

Does the club draw the attention of students seeking to learn more about entrepreneurship or is it open for everyone to try?

“We’re open for anyone to join. Our goal isn’t to directly target a specific audience; rather, we want to promote the concept of entrepreneurship amongst all Pilibos students (that’s why we began Spotlight). If anyone is interested in checking out the club, they can drop in during lunch on Fridays in Room 12.”

Winter Formal

At 12:15 on Friday, January 19, students rushed out of the Abcarian building halls, hoping they would have enough time to get ready for the long awaited, formal. Guys put on their best suits and the girls slipped into their best dresses, anxiously waiting to see what their friends are going to wear. Members of specific grade levels gathered earlier together to start the celebration and take lots of pictures. Soon students started rolling into the beautifully decorated hall in Metropol. The night started off with dining, along with the occasional dancing to the Armenian music being played. However, as the music got more intense, students could not get off the dance floor. The rhythmic beats of Armenian, Arabic, Spanish, and English music filled the hall and the bodies of the students. They took a quick break for some water and kebab, but quickly stood back up to continue dancing. Towards the end of the night, we celebrated Mr. McCrory’s and junior Veronica Mkhsi-Gevokian’s birthdays ...

Anna Turcotte Visits Pilibos

We are Armenian scholars in an Armenian school; because of this, we are often exposed to our country’s good and bad, the highs and lows. We often hear about the Armenian Genocide and the Artsakh conflicts, but we are not always reminded of the conflicts our people face outside of the homeland. We have seen Genocide survivors and young Artsakh soldiers whose stories we have heard and are a little familiar to us. However we rarely hear from a survivor of mass discrimination and violence, who stood up with Armenians the way other survivors did- just outside the homeland. Pilibos freshmen, sophomores and juniors met one such survivor in an assembly on Tuesday February 27 when Anna Astvatsaturian Turcotte came to Pilibos to share her story and experiences. Anna Turcotte was a ten year old girl living in Azerbaijan when her mother told her she could no longer go to volleyball practice. She did not know at first, but this was just the first sacrifice out of many for the years...
