The Power of Veganism
Although vegan diets are mainly known to help people lose weight, they offer various and essential health and environmental benefits. Since a vegan diet calls for the elimination of meat and animal products, one must solely rely on the intake of grains, fruits, vegetables, beans, peas, nuts and seeds to offer certain beneficial nutrients. Compared to other diets for weight loss, a vegan diet is much more effective. Besides these great benefits, going vegan has benefits for type 2 diabetes and declining kidney function. According to several studies, vegans tend to have lower blood sugar levels. Veganism lowers an individual’s chances of developing cancer, largely due to the large consumption of legumes, fruits, and vegetables.
Veganism is also helping the environment in ways we thought would never be possible; it conserves water, cleans the soil, reduces energy consumption, and purifies the air. According to Global Citizen, all the livestock in the world causes more air pollution than all the cars, buses, planes, ships and other modes of transportation in the world combined. Livestock are also one of the biggest polluters of fresh water.
Going vegan has probably been one of the most exciting changes in my life. Not only did it help me feel much healthier, but it also assured me that I am greatly helping the environment. To me, veganism represents compassion, nonviolence, and the process of caring for people and animals, including our planet.
